HYDE PARK ON HUDSON INSPIRED DINNER

The King and Queen of England were served hot dogs by the Roosevelts.

My dinner party themes are created from inspirations that come from many places.

Inspired by the picnic scene in the movie, HYDE PARK ON HUDSON, I decided a food like hot dogs can be part of a winter comfort themed dinner.

If it’s good enough for the King of  England it’s good enough for a dinner party idea! (and it doesn't have to be summertime to have hot dogs)

All-American style Winter comfort-food Menu:

Hot dogs on buns with mustard
Chicken wings
Macaroni and cheese
Baked beans
Chocolate brownie sundae

The idea is if you want simple, this is it...
You can make your favorite mac and cheese recipe, make the chicken wings, baked beans and dessert or...
Buy everything and set up a very cozy country table in the kitchen or dining room. Serve the food on beautiful rustic platters or go in the opposite direction and serve everything on silver trays. Relax, have fun and make it into your own style and decor.

A more complicated alternate to this very simple and easy menu:

Above, the ingredients in a Choucroute Garni
a L'Alsacienne.

Taking the hot dog and sauerkraut up a notch- Go French regional. Serve a quintissential Alsatian dish, Choucroute. Made of sauerkraut, flavored with bacon, onions, juniper berries, apples, broth and wine. It is then combined with sausages, smoked pork, bacon, duck or pheasant. Serve with dumplings or steamed new potatoes. Round it out with other French Regional specialties for a unique and memorable cozy and comfy dinner party.

From a dinner recorded in one of my entertaining journals.

Alsatian Choucroute dinner party
Menu:

Leek tart
Salad of Belgian endive
Choucroute Garni a L'Alsacienne
Rice pudding French bistro style
Or caramelized baked apples

Wine: An Alsatian Riesling, or a Gewurztraminer.

This dinner can be set up on a buffet table, in the kitchen, or dining room. Or, if you have room on your dining table, it can be served family style. It's a very country, bistro style dish that's sure to bring conversation and a feeling of well being to the New Year.

As Always,
